20-1652 - Determining the Value of Natural Assets

Natural systems provide numerous social, economic and environmental benefits, however, these benefits lack representation and are undervalued in municipal financial planning and reporting. Current processes do not fully account for the services and benefits that are provided by natural infrastructure leading to an increased risk of mismanagement. The City of Calgary (The City) has been developing a more holistic view of natural infrastructure assets and the services they provide as a key method in building a city that is resilient, particularly to the effects of climate change. To better protect, manage, and understand natural assets The City is preparing a financial valuation of the multiple services and benefits provided by natural assets. The City is seeking a qualified service provider to assist in identifying the municipal services provided by selected natural asset classes and accounting for the cumulative value of the services provided.

Any Agreement resulting from this opportunity will have a duration lasting until project completion.

This procurement process is not intended to create and will not create a formal legally binding bidding process and will instead be governed by the law applicable to direct commercial negotiations.
