In 2018, dam classification changed from a purely specification based categorization to a specification and consequence based system. In response to this change, The City must assess the classification of each Stormwater Management Facility (SWMF) dam under the new directive, develop The City's Dam Safety Management Policy, create a Stormwater Dam Safety Program, and update existing stormwater related Dam Safety Management Plans to ensure The City is in compliance with relevant regulatory requirements.
The current project is to have all City SWMFs adequately assessed, classified and inventoried including registration with Alberta Environment Parks (AEP). It will also include field assessment, preparation of deficiencies list, Safety Management Plans and Emergency Management Plans.
