Description

Notice is hereby given by The City of Calgary of its intent to enter into a contract DDS Consulting Ltd. to replace damaged sound barrier walls along 16 Avenue NE and Russet Road NE, up to total of 195 meters.

Background: In 2017, DDS Consulting was contracted via competitive quote process to complete 30 meters of a 40-year basket weave pattern wall replacement that was confirmed to be deteriorated. Recently in 2018, three large holes were discovered along the lower sections of the wall along the south side of 16 Avenue NE between Russet Road NE to Remington Road NE. Due to the fragile state of the entire 195 meters wall span, the replacement of the wall is required to prevent impact to the roads on either side of the road that is of public safety risk.

Scope: To immediately replace a total of 195 meters of sound attenuation wall with a similar basket weave pattern to match existing esthetic design pattern with a 50-year service life.
The work will consist of:

Remove and dispose of 195m of concrete sound attenuation wall along the south side of 16 Av NE between Russet Rd NE to Remington Rd NE.
Replace with concrete noise barrier wall with basket weave pattern and tie into new 30m wall section.
Concrete wall to be sealed, stained and color matched to remainder of the wall.
Install new concrete posts/columns by reusing existing piles where possible.

Term: Wall replacement must be completed by 2018 October 15.
